All Maui County races are non-partisan. Candidates may belong to a party but may not run under a party.

 

  • All (9) at-large Maui Council districts are up for election this year and every two years.

 

  • Each Maui voter selects one candidate from each (9) Council districts overall, either in the Primary and General or General Election only.

 

Only (4) Maui Council districts have Primary races and are listed on this guide to be voted on August 9th:

East Maui, West Maui, South Maui and Makawao-Haiku-Paia

 

(3) Maui Council district races which have only (2) candidates advance straight to the General Election on November 4th:

Wailuku-Waihee-Waikapu, Kahului and Upcountry

 

(2) Seats for Maui Council are uncontested:

Lanai and Molokai
 

  • The (2) highest vote winners in each Primary race will advance to the General Election on November 4th.

 

  • If any candidate wins 50% plus one (1) vote of their Primary race and there are no other contestants, they have won the seat.

 

  • The Maui County Mayor's term is up for election this year and every four years.
