Information about State Senate Races

Only if there is more than one candidate from the same party in the same race, is there a primary vote on August 9th. Otherwise, races with only one of each party go straight to the General Election on November 4th

You will only be able to vote within one party in the State primary races.

The winner of any party Primary will race against the singular or winning candidate/s from other parties, in the General Election.
(7) State Senate Districts which DO HAVE primary races and will be voted on August 9th: 1, 4, 5, 6, 12, 21 and 23

Candidates not listed in primary races automatically advance to the General Election as the only candidate of their party in their race.
(4) State Senate Districts which do NOT have primary races and will be voted on in the General Election November 4th: 3, 17, 18 and 24
(2) State Senate Districts are uncontested, only one candidate means automatic election: 7 and 16
(12) State Senate Districts do not have elections this year and will be up again in 2016: 2, 8, 9, 10, 11, 13, 14, 15, 19, 20, 22 and 25

In order to advance to the General Election, Non-Partisan (NS) candidates must either:
a) receive at least ten percent (10%) of the total votes cast for the office for which the person is a candidate at the Primary Election; OR
b) receive a vote equal to the lowest vote received by the partisan candidate who was nominated in the Primary Election for the office.

In the General Election you can vote for candidates of different parties if you choose.
