There are zero dollars on public record raised for Van Tanabe for Governor.

There are no current campaign contribution filings for Van Tanabe.

"I’m for labeling, I believe that it’s the people’s right to know what’s in their food and how it was grown. As for public safety, I don’t think that the dangers are exaggerated."

"Is this liquefied natural gas the same stuff that everybody is fracking in the mainland? Then no thanks. Like I said earlier Hawaii should be setting the bar when it comes to solar energy."

Do you support legalization and/or decriminalization of marijuana?

Yes. But don’t hold your breath because historically Hawaii will wait till the rest of

the country/world will embrace the idea of legalized marijuana before it is seriously considered here. At the very least Hawaii should cultivate and export it all over the world. Almost like the 70’s only difference the state will make all the money!

Do you support marriage equality?

It’s a done deal and besides it’s a “Human Rights” issue. Must move forward!

Will you oppose the privatization of our prisons in order to avoid a for-profit incarceration industry in Hawaii?

Yes, I will oppose any privatization of any function that will supposedly save government money. This is just another tactic to shift responsibility of service that should be provided by the government. It might save the state a few bucks but in the long run the cost will be higher for the people.

Notable Quotes:

Do you support finance reform such as publicly funded elections in order to reduce corporate influence on Hawaii politics?

"YES! If public financing will provide each candidate equal funding I’m all-in! The way campaign financing laws are now it just fuels political corruption. If you took a statewide poll asking if people support publicly funded elections 90% would be in favor of it and 10% would be politicians and their buddies."

Do you support the county rights to home rule in regards to the regulations of pesticides and genetically engineered crops?

"Yes, so long as the home rule is in the best interest of the consumer. So the county may home rule as long as they exceed state and federal regulations. Public safety is priority over profits."

On his "Ohana Lottery" idea for Hawaii residents only. He says it will generate $30 million a month to help local families and help with affordable housing, education and homelessness: "We always talk about affordable housing, you know. If we can generate upwards of $200 million annually, quite simply we can build a 100 affordable homes a year for the people," he said. "It'd be the same home that the private developers build. The only difference is the state is not trying to make a big profit or a killing. We're just trying to provide a service for the people of Hawaii."

Do you support lifting the cap on solar energy and mandating that HECO provide storage for renewable energy?

"YES! Why is there a cap in the first place? HECO losing too much money? They should’ve seen this coming over twenty years ago. Everyone is moving off fossil fuel

and towards green energy. Hawaii should be the world authority on solar technology and showing the rest of the world how to break the dependency of fossil fuel.

As governor I would convert all state buildings to solar energy within 4 years. This will save the state

hundreds of millions of dollars that can be rerouted to improve our education or even providing affordable homes. What do our leaders expect? Because we live in the middle of the Pacific Ocean we are going to be dependent for everything forever. What they

should’ve seen was the need to break the dependency on foreign oil and foreign food, but they went the opposite way. No wonder everything is so expensive!"
