We have grown so fast, we cover environmental, agricultural and Hawaiian issues now and we have accomplished so much, but there's a lot further to go! If we are going to continue being your eyes and ears on the scene, we need a new sustainable funding model. If we all put in a little bit, we can do it!

The BAB core team has been grinding primarily unpaid on a grassroots, shoestring budget since we started in 2012 and we have accomplished quite a LOT in the last three years! It is at the point where we need to be able to pay our full time BAB and have enough consistent funding for our projects, or they will not be able to continue. We are all in and growing fast, BAB is rolling and the work is more important than ever.

We are not a typical non-profit because we do so much policy advocacy and are more involved in politics, which makes us ineligible for most grants, and also means donations to BAB are not tax-deductible. That's also one of the major traits that sets us apart from other organizations, by allowing us more freedom to focus on legislation and address a broad spectrum of social justice issues from a wide variety of angles.

Our current financial model is not sustainable, we are much larger now than when we began our little grassroots group, and we have an increasingly complex set of urgent issues to cover in Hawaii today. If you want us to continue, we need a full team and to quickly grow our infrastructure and the number of organizers serving the population full time.

We have sought expertise on the best strategy moving forward, and we must shift our base funding to consistent, monthly, crowd funded income (people power) ASAP, wherein as many people as possible are making automatic, small contributions once a month, in order to propel our operations.

This is at a critical point so we can hire key staff immediately, develop the needed programs, and continue to operate and manage the rapidly expanding interest in BAB and resisting agrochemical GE dominance in favor of ecological, local food and farming.
