ABOUT

Babes Against Biotech is a non-profit based in Hawaii that was founded in response to the massive GMO open air experimentation and seed industry currently operating on Hawaiian soil. The founding sisters were inspired by the blatant corruption of the Honolulu City Council and Hawaii legislators, the majority of whom accept GMO lobbyist and company money in their campaign funds (and vote in a way that says they don't care if we are being experimented on as long as they get money.) They patent genetically altered seeds and contaminate real farms, chemically poison land and our food.

We gather Babes and Bros Against Biotech from around the world to organize, educate and stand up to say NO to GMO! Genetically Modified Organisms are made when scientists use genetic material from multiple species and force them together in the laboratory into plant and animal life, and then FEED THEM TO PEOPLE AND DON'T TELL YOU. At least in the United States, they don't tell you. They spent over $45 million to fight Prop 37 for GMO labeling in California. They don't care if your genes mutate and your grandkids are born sterile, covered in cancerous tumors with high mortality rates and hair on their tongues like the lab rats fed GMO corn, we do. ​

In the US, the FDA, USDA and EPA are littered with GMO executives, the government and the corporations have formed a revolving door of profit. But 30 of the world's most sane countries including most of Europe have already banned these toxic, poisonous foods and plants which contaminate all natural life. GMO's are manufactured by the biotechnology industry, made up of the world's most powerful and dangerous chemical companies. GMO food requires labeling in 61 countries for citizen health, genes and environment. The companies selling them are not pono, not right, they are putting profits over people and the effects are deadly, yet they make up 70% of the US food supply. Wonder why everyone is getting sick, cancer, allergies, infertility? GMO's have been linked to NUMEROUS health problems. ​

We need to increase GMO awareness, most people don't even know they are eating GMOs every day and that they are in the majority of processed foods. In the 90% of US cotton, 94% of soy, 88% of corn are GMO, sugar beets, alfalfa (fed to our livestock), wheat and zucchini also top the list of US GM foods and that's just the beginning. ​

We are dedicated to GMO awareness, and environmental education, mandatory GMO labeling and the ban of GMO cultivation to preserve our planet before it is too late and we have nothing but GMOs left. GMOs being grown in open fields contaminate original seeds, and the damages are irreversible. Spores fly in the wind to other farms, bees transfer their pollen to conventional and organic farms (which are then sued by GMO companies for patent infringement when organic farmers don't wants their #Frankenseed anyways) and if we let them, not far from now GMOs will be the only type of food available.​​

GMO Companies: Monsanto, Dow, Bayer, BASF, Pioneer, Syngenta and AquaBounty. ​​

The majority of GMO plants are engineered to be pesticide/herbicide resistant (Roundup Ready) so more chemicals (the GMO chemical companies sell the pesticides surprise surprise) are sprayed which kill healthy bacteria in the soil we need to grow anything at all! While purporting to decrease labor, there are no benefits, there is no gain, these GMOs have no more nutrition or flavor, there is only long term mortal, environmental and genetic risk. These pesticides are causing superbugs and superweeds which are evolving to withstand the chemical spraying. The GMOs that are not engineered to require the heavy use of pesticides conveniently sold by GMO companies, have insecticide ENGINEERED INTO THE PLANT ITSELF. So when you eat Monsanto's Bt corn available at Walmart and almost every other grocery retailer in America, you are eating pesticides. Horizontal gene transfer occurs when those multi-species bacteria lodge in your intestine and force your body to manufacture it's own mutant pesticide effectively poisoning yourself. ​

Did we mention they contaminate all the real seeds and genes? We need to stop GMO before they extinct us all. ​

#BAB was founded on April 25, 2012 after many, many hearings before the Honolulu City Council to pass Resolution 12-57 introduced by then Councilmember Tulsi Gabbard, amended by Councilman Tom Berg urging the FDA to require GMO labeling as promised by Obama in his first campaign. Unfortunately Obama then appointed former biotech executive of world's most hated company, Monsanto, Michael Taylor, to the head of the FDA. ​

We team up with local organic farms to do special non-GMO events and promote GMO awareness. We work with promoters, set up booths at reggae concerts with stickers, info and photo ops to help get the word out. We testify at hearings to stop GMO companies from hijacking Hawaii's resources and gaining any more power. We work hard to keep everyone up to date with what's going on in Hawaii regarding GMO and how they can stop it. We want GMOs to be a household word, as in, "WAIT! Don't eat that it's GMO!!!"​

We have a lot of dreams, a GMO free Hawaii, a GMO free world, we are all in this together. We want a BAB GMO action center in Hawaii where the public and all the non-GMO groups can join us to help tackle every single day GMO until it's gone! We will use our funding to do Public Service Announcements, publish our online magazine, bring you amazing GMO fighting talent, more non-GMO events, and produce our super sexy GMO free calendars and more!​
